Sara Casanova

Sara Casanova, English, Spanish and Catalan conference interpreter and translator from English and German into Spanish, is at the helm of Translating the Change.

I am a bilingual professional, of Valencian and Mallorcan origin, with a multicultural trajectory that is at the root of my uncompromising insistence on translations that are accurate and adapted to every context. I have spent my life surrounded by different languages and cultures, and consequently view the world from a global perspective.

The professional you want by your side

My academic background and my passions enable me to offer you tailor-made, personalised translation solutions.

I obtained a degree in Translation and Interpretation at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona. This gave me an insight into the complexity of languages and their cultural contexts. During my Erasmus+ study visit to Leipzig, Germany, I worked hard on my language skills and subsequently specialised in simultaneous interpretation by taking the MA in Conference Interpreting at La Laguna, which is part of the EMCI (European Masters in Conference Interpreting).

In addition to my love for languages, another of my great passions is nutrition. Which is why I decided to study for a distance degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics at the Universidad Isabel I in Burgos. I now specialise in translating texts in the food and health sector.

FAQs

If your event will be attended by people who speak different languages, hiring a professional interpreter is key to ensuring that everyone understands and participates fully. Imagine inviting an internationally renowned speaker that many people wish to hear, but half the attendees don’t speak the same language, don’t feel confident enough to ask questions in English and haven’t been able to follow the debate. This leads to frustration and could affect attendee satisfaction and participation in future editions.

The ideal service depends on the type of event: for conferences, seminars, televised events, training sessions or assemblies, simultaneous interpretation is the best option, as interpretation takes place in real time. On the other hand, consecutive interpretation is more often used in short press conferences, small meetings, formal speeches or interviews, as we take turns with the speakers; consequently, the event is always longer. Whatever the case, tell me more about your event (duration, languages, format), I will recommend the best option to you, with clear, jargon-free, easy to understand explanations.

The price depends on the duration of the event, although, when you take into account all the advantages, it is always worthwhile. Rates are generally calculated per half day (up to 4 hours) or per full day (up to 7 hours). If the event goes over the agreed time, we apply an overtime rate. Drop me an email and I will send you a quote tailored to your event. It’s important to bear in mind that the fee does not cover only the time the interpreters spend at your event, but also all the preparation, the documentation and, as in other sectors, all their previous experience and training.

The interpreting fee includes meticulous preparation of the terminology and documentation, the interpreting service, a sound check, availability 30 minutes before the start of the event and 15 minutes’ grace after the end.

Most certainly! I have been providing remote simultaneous interpreting services regularly for several years. I usually work with platforms such as Zoom. All you need is a licence and the interpreting function.

I translate from English and German into Spanish and Catalan and I interpret into English, Spanish and Catalan. I also have a network of trusted colleagues for projects in other languages (French, German, Euskera, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish…) Just tell me which languages you need and I’ll take care of the rest.

Of course. You can write to me, even if you need interpreters in languages other than mine (English, Spanish and Catalan), as my network of trusted colleagues who work in other languages will be able to cover your needs. You can also leave me in charge of hiring the technical equipment and contacting the sound technicians.

It’s very important to speak at a natural pace, to communicate rather than read a text verbatim and to use the microphones correctly. At remote events the usual procedure is to use a headset with a microphone to ensure the sound is clear and switch off the microphone when we are not speaking. We request that you send the presentations well in advance in order to give the interpreters time to prepare them.

The price of a translation depends on the length of the text, how specialised it is, the format of the document and the delivery deadline. Working with editable file formats (Word, PDF, Excel, PowerPoint…) allows us to speed up the process.

I work with highly experienced, qualified translators and interpreters. Each translation is proofread by a second linguist, to ensure accuracy and coherence. I collaborate with interpreters with an MA in Conference Interpreting, who prepare each event thoroughly and meticulously. Sending us all the relevant documentation in advance will also allow us to guarantee the best possible quality. We will treat it with the utmost confidentiality (name, role of the speakers, the agenda, the presentations that will be used, prepared speeches, audiovisual content and any other document that will aid with the contextualisation and preparation of the event).

Consider it done. I work with sworn translators accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Drop me an email with details of the text you need translated and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

I have a degree in nutrition and the bulk of my professional experience has been in health, sustainable development and marketing, although it is by no means restricted to these fields. Nevertheless, I work with colleagues who specialise in different fields and languages, to ensure your text will always be in the best hands.
